David Hundeyin Reacts to Police Allegation as Accomplice in PIDOM Case

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has addressed the recent declaration by the Nigeria Police Force labeling him an accomplice in the trial of whistleblower Isaac Tamunobifiri, known as PIDOM.

Hundeyin discussed these allegations in an interview with News Central Television on Wednesday.

Hundeyin attributed the police’s move to his commitment to truth-telling in a current administration that views such honesty as a threat.

He suggested that the authorities’ efforts to involve him in the criminal case are part of a broader attempt to undermine his international refugee status and to place him on an Interpol watch list.

In 2023, Hundeyin revealed that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had made multiple attempts to abduct him from abroad due to his exposure of corruption among high-ranking officials.

He recounted these efforts, noting that he had to relocate from Ghana to Kenya, and eventually to the United Kingdom for safety.

“There were several attempts by the NIA to abduct me. They even tried to render me stateless.

I had to move from Ghana to Kenya and then to the UK to evade their attempts,” Hundeyin said.

“This is the price one pays for speaking the truth, especially in a regime that sees truth-telling as a threat.”

When asked about his reaction to being declared an accomplice, Hundeyin said he anticipated such a development.

He believed that the attempts to hack his devices and involve him in a criminal investigation were part of a strategy to discredit him and intimidate political opponents.

“The hacking attempts and the pressure to involve me in this case were clear signs of a state security effort to discredit me,”
Hundeyin stated.

“It seems the aim is to fabricate a narrative that would justify placing me on an Interpol list, complicating my travel and making it appear as if they are closing in on me.

This is a priority for the Nigerian establishment, even as serious threats like terrorists are actively flaunting their activities online.”
