Dangote Refinery to Start Petrol Production This Month, Says management

The Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Devakumar Edwin, has confirmed that the Dangote Oil Refinery and Petrochemicals company will commence the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, this month.

Edwin made this announcement during a visit to the refinery by S&P Global, a leading international financial analytics corporation. He reiterated that the refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, will produce high-quality products that meet international standards.

According to Edwin, the refinery aims to scale up to at least 500,000 barrels per day capacity by July/August and will refine petrol and ultra-low sulphur diesel.

He highlighted that the refinery is designed to process a wide range of crude oils, including those from Africa, the Middle East, and US Light Oil.

S&P Global described the refinery as a game-changer for Nigeria’s economy, capable of resolving the country’s foreign exchange issues and boosting revenue generation.

The refinery’s production is expected to meet 100 percent of Nigeria’s demand for petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, with surpluses available for export.

Edwin’s announcement signals a major milestone for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, positioning the Dangote Refinery as a critical player in the global energy market.

The refinery’s ability to produce ultra-low sulphur diesel is particularly significant, as it aligns with international environmental standards and supports global efforts to reduce emissions.
