Customs to boost revenue generation with 4% FOB levy

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has directed all Customs Area Controllers (CAC) to educate importers and other stakeholders about the new 4% Free On Board (FOB) levy.

According to a circular (NCS/FATS/ABJ/S.797) signed by Deputy Comptroller-General Finance, Admin, and Technical Services, B.M Jibo, the 4% FOB levy is part of efforts to boost revenue generation and ensure compliance with the NCS Act 2023.

The circular, titled “Sensitisation of Importers and Stakeholders on the Collection of 4% FOB,” emphasises the importance of raising awareness about the levy and its role in enhancing revenue.

To ensure smooth implementation, all Customs Area Controllers are expected to actively engage with importers, clearing agents, and other relevant stakeholders.

They are instructed to organise meetings, workshops, and sensitisation sessions to explain the purpose, process, and compliance requirements of the new levy.

The NCS is urging full cooperation from all parties involved to successfully implement the directive and is requesting regular updates on the progress of stakeholder engagement and compliance rates.
