A violent clash between two rival cult groups, Eiye and Aye, has led to the death of a member in Orerokpe community, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which occurred late last night, is believed to have been sparked by a lingering dispute over an alleged online business deal between members of the groups.
According to sources, the latest conflict erupted when members of the Eiye cult group alledgely launched a brutal attack on an Aye member identified as Kenneth near Schban, popularly known as the Last Hour Pub, in Orerokpe.
“The conflict began over a failed online business deal between an Aye and an Eiye member. The Eiye member was first attacked by Aye members, who also took his phone during the incident,” a source familiar with the situation told Nat’l Telescope.
The source added that in a bid for revenge, secret cult members ambushed Kenneth, who was attending a birthday celebration at the Last Hour Pub. “Kenneth was spotted by the Eiye rolling squad and was brutally attacked. His phones were also taken, and he was left with life-threatening injuries,” the source said.
Eyewitnesses described Kenneth as a gentle boy who was unaware of the initial altercation that triggered the attack.
“Kenneth was not involved in what caused the initial problem. He was attacked only because of his supposed affiliation with Aye,” the source noted.
The incident has raised concerns among residents of Orerokpe, who fear a further escalation of violence between the two rival groups. Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Residents are calling on security agencies to intervene and restore calm to the community, as tensions remain high following the violent encounter.
