Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, presented a proposed budget of N498 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, titled the “Sustainable Growth Budget,” to the State House of Assembly in Calabar on Tuesday.
In his presentation, Otu detailed that N328 billion, or 66% of the budget, is allocated for capital expenditure, while N170 billion, or 34%, is set aside for recurrent spending. He emphasized that the budget is designed to align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Industry and Innovation, and Peace and Justice.
“The 2025 budget is structured around SDG benchmarks to ensure the continuity of key projects and programs that need to roll over into the new fiscal year,” Otu stated.
He highlighted that the budget is a result of extensive consultations and reflects the aspirations of Cross River residents.
Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, expressed optimism that the budget will foster significant development throughout the state, praising Otu’s administration for its accomplishments, particularly the timely payment of salaries and gratuities to civil servants.
