The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Prof. Cyril Ndifon, who was suspended as Dean of Law Faculty at University of Calabar, as well as his lawyer Sunny Anyawu.

Both men are facing charges of sexual harassment and attempting to obstruct justice, as amended in four counts by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Ndifon’s bail has been set at N250m with two sureties, while Anyawu’s bail is N50m with two sureties as well.

The court remanded Ndifon on January 8 during his initial appearance and was granted temporary bail on January 10 for medical treatment.

However, Nfifon’s Lawyer, Anyanwu was added to the revised charge filed by the ICPC on January 22 due to allegations that he threatened the prosecution’s key witness during trial.

At the January 26 hearing, both Ndifon and Anyanwu were ordered to be held in custody.

Meanwhile, the judge previously refused to hear their bail requests, citing the need to safeguard the ICPC’s main witness.

In their recent bail application, Justice James Omotoso decided against granting their release, stating his reasoning during the ruling.

He said, Bail is granted to the first defendants in the sum of N250m with two sureties who own properties within FCT with a minimum valuation of N150m.

“The first defendant and his two sureties must submit their bank statements.

“The first defendants must submit his International passport to the court.

For Anyanwu, Omotoso granted him bail in the region of N50m with two sureties.

“The second defendant is granted bail in the sum of N50m with two sureties who will submit their bank statements.
“The defendants must file an undertaking not to interfere with the case, readiness to attend trial and not to cause delay.”

The case has been scheduled to continue on Monday according to the decision made by Justice Omotosho during the previous court proceedings.
