Court Grants N100m Bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance Protesters

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N10 million each to 10 protesters arrested during the last #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. The protesters, including Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (Lenin), 28; Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi (Yomi), 34; Suleiman Yakubu, 28; Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, 50; Buhari Lawal, 21; Mosiu Sadiq, 28; Bashir Bello (also known as Murtala), 51; Nurudeen Khamis, 47; and Abduldalam Zubair, 37, were charged by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with offenses including treason and advocating for a military takeover.

Justice Emeka Nwite, who granted the bail on Wednesday, stated, “The defendants are to provide one surety each in like sum, who must be residents and property owners in Abuja.”

He also emphasised that the sureties must “deposit documents of the properties with the court and swear an affidavit of means.”

Additionally, the court ordered the defendants and their sureties to surrender their international passports and submit three recent passport photographs.

Justice Nwite further instructed that the protesters are “restrained from participating in any public rally pending the outcome of their trial.”

Until the bail conditions are met, the judge ordered that the defendants remain in custody.

The case was adjourned to September 27 for the commencement of trial.
