The Lagos State University (LASU) has announced that the case instituted by its former Staff, Dr. Johnson Oluwole Ayodele at the National Industrial Court has been dismissed.
The Institution made this known in a statement published on its Bulletin and obtained by CAMPUS FOCUS on Tuesday, 19th May, 2020.
The Suit nos NICN/LA/452/15 was delivered on Friday 15th May, 2020 by Honourable Justice Obaseki of Court 3 National Industrial Court, Lagos Judicial Division, holden in Lagos.
According to the statement, Dr. Johnson 0. Ayodele (the Claimant), a former Staff of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences filed the suit against LASU challenging the Composition of the Sub-Committee setup by the university to investigate a case level against him on gross misconduct bordering on sexual harassment and attempted rape of a student in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences
The statement reads: “The University Community and General Public is hereby notified that the case between the Lagos State University and it’s former Staff, Dr. Johnson Oluwole Ayodele has been decided by the National. Industrial Court in favour of Lagos State University.
“The judgment in the case of Dr. Johnson Oluwole Ayodele Vs Lagos State University; Suit nos NICN/LA/452/15 was delivered on Friday 15th May 2020 by Honourable Justice Obaseki of Court 3
National Industrial Court, Lagos Judicial Division, holden in Lagos.
“Dr. Johnson 0. Ayodele (the Claimant), a former Staff of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences was being investigated for a case of gross misconduct bordering on sexual harassment and
attempted rape of a student in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences.
“In line with our extant rules and in the spirit of fair hearing, he was invited to appear before the SubCommittee of the then Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC) for further investigations when the allegation was first reported. Rather than appear before the Sub Committee, Dr. Johnson O. Ayodele, hurriedly instituted the above action against the University at the National Industrial Court of Lagos,
challenging the Composition of the Sub-Committee.
“The Court in delivering the judgment found the Claimant’s case against the University frivolous and unmeritorious and consequently dismissed all his claims and was also ordered by the Court to pay the University the cost ‘of N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) only.” The statement added.
