The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, has assured corps members that their monthly allowance will be increased once civil servants begin to receive the new minimum wage.
Speaking during his visits to the Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari and the Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko, Brigadier General Ahmed highlighted the significant role corps members play in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He acknowledged their “selfless and immense contributions” and reassured them that their welfare remains a priority for the NYSC.
“The allowance will be increased in line with the new minimum wage once civil servants start receiving it,” he said.
Brigadier General Ahmed urged corps members to take full advantage of the service year to develop themselves, adding, “This is a time to prepare yourselves for greater achievements in the future.”
He also encouraged them to actively participate in the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to gain vocational skills that would enable them to become self-reliant.
This comes after the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, recently agreed on a new national minimum wage of N70,000 with the Organised Labour.
The National Assembly passed the bill, which was subsequently signed into law by President Tinubu.
