Corps member who refurbishes hospital, donate items gets Oyo State award

The Oyo State Government has awarded a Corps member, Dr. Kingsley Ugwe for his outstanding performance during his compulsory service in the State.

The Corps member with the State code No: OY/23A/1108 and call-up no: NYSC/UPP/ 025410 in the 2023 Batch ‘A’, refurbished the delivery rooms at the General Hospital, Igbeti, and donated wheelchairs and crutches to the hospital.

It was disclosed that Dr. Ugwe after his orientation course, was posted to the General hospital Igbeti, a rural settlement in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State for his primary assignment where he identified the need of his community.

According to Dr Ugwe, this critical need has hindered the smooth running of few operations at the hospital.

Speaking on his motivation to make these contributions to his host community, he said, delivery room is significant to the hospital, community and individuals because it is the location where children are brought into this world. He said that he noticed the delivery room in the General Hospital, Igbeti was in a deplorable state and with faulty equipment and the solution was to renovate it, acquire new equipment and repair the existing ones.

He said the significance of the project is to ease the process of taking deliveries by the midwives with availability of equipment, increase the chances of both mother and child making it through delivery room alive and increase the number of deliveries that can be taken at the same time to two(2) in the facility.

Meanwhile, the Corps member’s quest to improve the lives of those living with disabilities, donated 3 wheelchairs and 3 crutches to some persons who could not afford them.

In the same vein, Dr. Ugwe embarked on Health, Academic talk and quiz competition for four (4) selected secondary schools in Igbeti. He also distributed 400 copies of customized notebooks and pens to students of the selected schools and sponsored four (4) indigent students for WAEC registration with a sum of forty thousand naira (#40,000) each to make his impact felt among the younger generation in the community.

Three Corps members received commendation letters on their personal projects they executed.

They are : Kelani Taofeekat with the State Code OY/23A/2165 built a modernized toilet for Idi-Araba Community High School, his place of Primary Assignment in Ogo Oluwa Local Government.

Bamigboye Damilola OY/23A/0788 embarked on advocacy and awareness Campaign for pregnant women.

Andrew Blessing OY/ 23A/0880 on Skills Acquisition/advocacy and business management in five secondary schools in Iseyin namely; Islamic Boys’ High School, Aseyin Grammar School, Baptist Grammar School Koso, Iseyin District Grammar School and Ajayi Crowther Victory College.
