A Delta-based civil society organisation, the Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR) today gave its support for the upcoming protest tagged “End Hunger/End Bad Governance,” scheduled to take place August 1st to 10th.

The Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR) led by Bar Maxwell Omemiroro Ogedegbe (National Director) Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj (Delta State Director) Elder Atiku Sunday (National PRO) pledges to provide both legal and moral support to protesters demanding an end to hunger, bad governance, and the protection of human rights in Nigeria.

In a press briefing, the CAHR National Director, Bar Maxwell Omemiroro Ogedegbe, highlighted the legal rights of citizens to protest, citing court rulings that affirm the right to protest without police permits.

He called on the government to ensure a peaceful environment for the protests, including the provision of health facilities, access to water and sanitation, protection from police brutality, and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups such as women, children, and persons with disabilities.

According to the group, “The protest is a constitutional right, and the government has a duty to protect and facilitate it.

” We warned against any attempts to suppress or intimidate protesters, CAHR will provide legal assistance to those who are arrested or detained.” The group said.

The Delta State Director, Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj, echoed the National Director’s sentiments, urging Nigerians, particularly those in Delta State, to join the protests in large numbers.

He criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he argued has led to skyrocketing inflation, widespread hunger, increased cost of living, and immense suffering for the masses.

He said, “The government’s careless policies have caused immense hardship. It is imperative that we address these issues head-on.

“I called for the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy and measures to tackle the root causes of hunger and bad governance.” He added.

On his part, Elder Atiku Sunday, the National PRO, of the group stressed the importance of the protest, statting the need for government to provide security and care for its citizens.

He noted that, “Protesters are driven by a love for their country and a desire for positive change, not chaos or destruction,” he asserted.

CAHR’s demands include: “lmmediate reversal of the fuel subsidy removal, “Implementation of policies to address hunger and poverty. “Protection of human rights and civil liberties. “Accountability and transparency in governance

“We call on all Nigerians to join the protest and demand their rights. Together, we can build a better Nigeria,” CAHR leaders said.
