As Nigeria gears up to celebrate Children’s Day on Monday, May 27, the Kwara Kiddie YEG League has organised a special charity shield game to honour its young participants.
This celebration is a key event for the Kwara Kiddie YEG League, which is now in its third season and is renowned as the largest kiddies’ football league in the country.
The league has played a significant role in grassroots football development in Nigeria, thanks to its high organisational standards and modern approach to football training.
Speaking about the 2024 Charity Shield event, the Chief Operating Officer of the league, Ibrahim Jatto, emphasised the importance of Children’s Day to the league. He explained that this symbolic event was created to highlight the significance of the day.
“The 2024 Charity Shield is another opportunity to showcase the incredible talent we have and the beauty of our football,” Jatto said.
He also noted that the event would help raise funds and support for the league.
Notable dignitaries expected at the event include the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Sulyman Ibrahim; Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawiy Olododo; Commissioner for Water Resources, Yunusa Lade; Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Saadat Modibo Kawu; and Commissioner for Youths, Nafisat Buge.
Other guests include the Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Thuraya; Special Assistant on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Aileru Olamilekan Mikail; and Special Assistant on Digital Innovation, Ishola Kayode, among others.
The charity shield event will kick off at 10 a.m. with two key matches: the first between the Kwara Football Academy boys and the Kiddies League 2023 team of the season, followed by a qualifying playoff between HoneyKing FA and Flash Bombers FA.
The Kwara Kiddie YEG League distinguishes itself through its integration of data and statistics on players’ performances, high-quality images and audiovisuals, appraisal of outstanding performances, and weekly engagements with children.
