Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his administration’s eagerness to partner with the Canadian Government to enhance the state’s healthcare system and boost its economy through natural resource investments.
Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. James Christoff, shared this development with reporters after a meeting with Governor Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
He emphasized that the visit aimed to explore areas of mutual benefit between Canada and Rivers State.
Mr. Christoff highlighted his interest in visiting the Absorption Oxygen Plant at Eleme General Hospital, which was funded by the Canadian Government.
He acknowledged the Governor’s commitment to healthcare and expressed his desire to evaluate the impact of the facility on the state.
“We discussed areas where we can deepen our cooperation.
One of my objectives during this visit is to inspect the Medical Oxygen facility supported by Canada and managed by UNICEF,” Mr. Christoff said.
“Given that health is a priority for Governor Fubara, I want to see firsthand how the Medical Oxygen Plant is benefiting the state.”
The Canadian High Commissioner also mentioned that their discussions included potential collaborations in exploiting Rivers State’s natural resources, similar to practices in Canada.
He stressed his role in fostering business development and unlocking opportunities for Canadian companies in Nigeria.
“I look forward to exploring how Canadian businesses and state governments can work together, especially in the natural resource sector,” Mr. Christoff added.
“I am keen to continue these discussions to benefit both our countries.”
