Call for Yoruba Nation laughable, says DHQ

The Defense Headquarters has dismissed the recent calls for the Yoruba Nation as absurd. They also warned about plans by terrorists and their supporters to discredit the military in response to its actions against insurgents.

Recently, some Yoruba Nation agitators, dressed in military attire, attempted to seize control of the Oyo State secretariat and House of Assembly. However, security forces intervened, leading to the arrest of 29 suspects who were subsequently charged with various offenses.

During a press briefing in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba of the Defence Media Operations emphasized that such agitations only exacerbate the country’s security challenges.

He stated, “The agitation for a Yoruba Nation is nonsensical, similar to the IPOB agitation in the South East. These actions highlight the self-inflicted nature of our security woes.”

Buba reiterated that bearing arms against the government is a grave offense, warranting decisive action from the military.

Highlighting recent military achievements, Buba reported the neutralization of 192 terrorists, the arrest of 341 suspects, and the rescue of 62 kidnapped individuals. Additionally, 122 ISWAP/JAS combatants surrendered with their families.

Furthermore, the military apprehended 37 suspected oil thieves and recovered stolen crude oil valued at N821 million. Various weapons and ammunition were also seized, including AK47 rifles, Dane guns, and assorted rounds of ammunition.

Despite these successes, Buba cautioned against attempts by terrorists and their sympathizers to undermine the military’s efforts through propaganda.

He urged the media to remain vigilant and not fall prey to the manipulation of these groups, emphasizing that the military’s operations have thwarted their nefarious objectives.
