The management of the University of Benin has confirmed that there were no fatalities in the building collapse that occurred early Saturday morning in Ekosodin.
The university’s management reported that there were no fatalities in the incident.
In a statement made available to NATIONAL TELESCOPE by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, it was confirmed that the rescued students are in stable condition and receiving medical attention.
The statement read: “The University of Benin management is pleased to announce that the three students who were trapped in the collapsed storey building in the Ekosodin community have been rescued and are currently recovering in the hospital. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
“The building collapsed early Saturday morning after heavy rainfall that began on Friday afternoon.
“The prompt response from our rescue teams, including members of the Security and Fire Service departments, the Health Centre, students, and the Police, ensured the students were swiftly rescued.
“They were initially treated at the university’s Health Centre before being transferred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
“The management extends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to the affected students and commends the rescue team for their brave efforts.”
