Buhari, Kwara Gov mourns ex-UNILORIN VC, Adeniyi

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserates with the Governing Board of the University of Ilorin, staff and students on the death of ex-Unilorin VC  Prof. Emeritus Adeoye Adeniyi.

Buhari in a release on Wednesday by his Special Adviser, Femi Adesina, assured Adeniyi’s family that his contributions to national development, especially the educational sector, will always be remembered.

In the same vein, the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the death of Prof. Adeniyi as end of an era

Abdulrazaq in a release on Thursday (today) by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye commiserated with the family of deceased.

The governor also condoled with the University of Ilorin and the academic community over the death of Adeniyi, a Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health who was the fourth VC of the institution.

“Prof Adeniyi left behind a legacy of being a distinguished patriot whose contributions to national development, especially in the education sector and child care that was his forte,” according to a statement by AbdulRazaq’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.

The governor prayed to the Almighty God to repose the soul of the academic.

Meanwhile the University of Ilorin in a bulletin issued by the information office of the institution on Monday, said the late don who was reputed to be the longest-serving vice-chancellor in the university passed on at Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sept. 5.

Added that the Professor who served as the VC of UNILORIN between 1985 and 1992 died at the age of 95.

The bulletin also stated that Adenyi, who hailed from Ogah, Kogi, was the first inaugural lecturer of the then Faculty of Health Sciences (now Clinical Sciences) of the university.

The inaugural lecture was entitled: “Child Care in Nigeria; A Critical Appraisal of Some Modern and Traditional Concepts” delivered on May 19, 1980.

“The late Adeniyi is survived by children and grandchildren; the burial rite of the late Professor Emeritus will be announced later,” the bulletin stated.
