The Nigeria Police Force has suspended Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia, with effect from January 9, 2025, over allegations of age falsification.
While the full details of his suspension remain unclear at the time of this report, sources at the Force Headquarters revealed to SaharaReporters that discrepancies in Lafia’s official documents have raised serious concerns about the integrity of his service record.
The suspended AIG is accused of tampering with his retirement records to extend his tenure in office.
In a wireless message addressed to all police departments, units, and commands, the Force Secretary outlined the suspension, urging strict adherence to rules and regulations governing police officers on suspension, pending the resolution of the case by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).
The suspension was authorised by the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM) in a letter dated January 9, 2025, in accordance with PSR 100406, 2021 (as amended).
Additionally, the police authorities instructed the assistant inspector general of police responsible for budget and payments to immediately halt Lafia’s salary.
Lafia assumed the position of AIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja in February 2023.
His suspension has sent shockwaves through the police force as the investigation into the allegations continues.
