The Director General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has resigned from his position.
He submitted his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Abubakar, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018, has served as the NIA’s substantive Director General for the past five years.
Prior to this appointment, he was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
A retired career Foreign Service officer, Abubakar has a wealth of experience in international diplomacy, having worked extensively with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation, preventive diplomacy, and the promotion of good governance, rule of law, and human rights.
