Bobrisky files appeal to challenge conviction over Naira abuse

Bobrisky, the flamboyant figure known for his bold fashion and lifestyle, has officially appealed against his conviction for misuse of Naira currency.

After being sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine, Bobrisky, through his legal representative, has taken steps to challenge the ruling.

The appeal contends that the sentencing was too severe, especially considering Bobrisky’s lack of prior criminal history. Instead, his legal team argues for a lesser punishment, suggesting a fine of N50,000 for each count.

They emphasize Bobrisky’s cooperation with authorities and his clean record prior to this incident. The appeal asserts that the trial court’s decision was overly punitive and did not properly consider mitigating factors. Bobrisky’s camp believes that a fairer outcome would be achieved through a more balanced approach to sentencing, in accordance with the law.

“The intendment of the provisions of the Central Bank Act 2007 that the Appellant was charged with is for Nigerians not to tamper with Naira and not what nationals of foreign countries view about tampering with Naira.

“The trial Court did not consider the positive antecedent of the Appellant who did not waste the precious Judicial resources of the trial Court when he pleaded guilty to the Charge. The Appellant honoured the invitation of the Respondent-Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the first invitation during the investigation leading to the charge.

“The trial Court failed to exercise his discretion judiciously and judicially in sentencing the Appellant. which has occasioned miscarriage of justice against the Appellant.”
