Former Senator and media entrepreneur, Ben Murray-Bruce, has urged Nigerians to tone down their criticism of the country’s leaders, stating that both the government and its officials “need a break.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Murray-Bruce wrote: “Those of you on social media, stop criticizing Nigeria. Stop criticizing our leaders. Stop criticizing us. We need a break.”

His statement has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians debating whether political leaders should be shielded from public scrutiny.

Some users on social media accused the former senator of attempting to silence legitimate concerns about governance, while others supported his call for more constructive engagement rather than outright criticism.

Nigeria has faced increasing social and economic challenges in recent months, including inflation, insecurity, and governance concerns, leading to heightened public discourse online.

Many citizens use social media as a platform to express their frustrations, demand accountability, and call for reforms.

Despite the backlash, Ben Murray-Bruce has been known for advocating a positive outlook on Nigeria’s future.

He has previously championed policies centered on technological innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development.

As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen whether his message will resonate with the Nigerian public or further fuel discussions on the role of social media in holding leaders accountable.
