The Lagos State National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang has called on Lagos camp officials to work together for a successful training program of her forth come intake corp members.
The Opening ceremony which would start on Thursday, will be featuring the 2024 Batch ‘C’ stream II Orientation course program, to prepare corp members for their call up disciplines.
Speaking at the opening meeting held at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Mrs. Salmwang emphasized the need for teamwork among officials.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand,” she warned, stressing that unity is essential to prevent corps members from taking advantage of any disunity among officials.
Mrs. Salmwang urged officials to treat incoming corps members with kindness and empathy, highlighting the importance of first impressions.
“Be welcoming to the corps members as they arrive at camp,” she advised, reminding officials to engage with them respectfully and avoid any harsh treatment.
On the issue of discipline, she asserted that officials must lead by example while ensuring discipline among corps members.
She cautioned against over socialization, which could weaken their authority, and reiterated that drug use on camp is strictly prohibited to safeguard the mental well-being of the corps members.
However, Camp Director Mrs. Grace Oso, also addressed the officials, encouraging them to wear name-tags for easy identification and actively participate in camp activities.
She highlighted the open-door policy of the Camp Secretariat, inviting officials to voice their concerns and suggestions.
Meanwhile, Captain Mohammed Mohammed, the Camp Commandant, echoed the importance of collaboration, stating that success is the ultimate goal of the orientation course.
The meeting also featured goodwill messages from key figures, including Resident Officer Mrs. Ogunfunwa Olayinka and representatives from the Southwest Area Office, Mr. Adekunle Suleiman and Mrs. Chinyere Uzoigwe, all supporting the aim of a successful 2024 Batch “C” Stream II Orientation Course.
