Bauchi to Shut Primary Healthcare Centres on August 1

The Bauchi State government has announced it will shut down all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state on August 1, the day of the Endbadgovernancein Nigeria protest.

Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, made this announcement on Tuesday in Bauchi.

He stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of healthcare workers and patients due to potential security threats anticipated during the protest.

Speaking at the opening of the bi-annual media engagement on PHC Services Reporting Techniques in Bauchi, Dr. Mohammed said, “Security reports have indicated that our PHCs may be targeted during the protest. We are not willing to risk the lives of our staff and patients. So, we will be closing these facilities.”

He added that healthcare staff would be on holiday on the protest date to avoid any potential attacks. Normal services are expected to resume once the protest concludes.

“The board has also informed security agencies to protect healthcare facilities across the state,” Mohammed stated.
