The Bauchi State House of Assembly has raised concerns over abandoned constituency projects in the state and consequently adopted a motion calling on the state government to liaise with the appropriate federal agencies for the commissioning or completion of such projects.
The member representing Sade Constituency, Lawal Dauda, moved the motion during plenary.
According to him, many constituency projects have been idle across the 20 local government areas since 2003. Expressing concern over the development, he said some of the infrastructure was completed and stocked with modern facilities but remained under lock and key. He added that there is a need for government to embark on initiating the process of commissioning these projects for the benefit of the people.
He, therefore, urged the House to mandate all members to, as a matter of urgency, forward details of all projects lying idle in their constituencies so they can be commissioned.
According to him, the state government should liaise with the relevant authorities at the federal level and the National Assembly with a view to commissioning and handing over all the projects lying idle across the 20 local government areas from 2003 to the relevant government agencies for the benefit of the people of the state.
The Speaker, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, commending Dauda for moving the motion, noted that there are several projects executed by members of the National Assembly that have not been properly put to use.
In his submission, Dr Nasiru Ahmed Ala, representing Madara/Chinade Constituency, said that the motion was timely and important, but opined that the mover of the motion should have collated the projects and attached the list with the motion.
But the Speaker said members could do that by listing such projects in their constituencies as requested by the mover of the motion.
Citing instances of abandoned constituency projects, Musa Wakili Nakwada, representing Bogoro Constituency, mentioned the electrification of Bogoro to Gobbiya and a rural road project initiated by a former member of the National Assembly and stressed that the projects are uncompleted.
In his contribution, Sa’idu Suleiman Darazo, representing Darazo Constituency, suggested that the House should write to the National Assembly to draw its attention to the completed and uncompleted projects so that they can be completed and put to use. (Dailypost)
