The management of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo state has began investigation into the incident that led to a brutal injuring of a female student by a yet to be identified lecturer of the department of science and laboratory in the institution.
The institution made the disclosure in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer M.I Oshiobugie and made available to this medium today.
According to the statement, students of department of science and laboratory technology while carrying out a practical assignment became uncontrollable and attempt to bring the situation under control led to the incident.
“Preliminary investigation shows that students of the department of Science Laboratory Technology on a practical assignemtn became unruly and attempts by the supervising lecturer to bring the situation under control led to an unfortunate bodily harm to a female student.
“Management has demanded from the lecturer to explain in writing the details of the incidence.”
Oshiobugie however said the student has been taking for medical treatment and has since resumed back to school.
“Management assures that a thorough investigation into the matter is on-going and the outcome of the investigation will determine the appropriate action to be taken.
“Meanwhile, Management has ensured a proper medical attention for the student and is pleased that she is back to school and going about her academic work” he added
Recalled that the lecturer escaped lynching after he allegedly assaulted the student of the department of Science Laboratory and Technology [SLT] and caused her an injury.
According to reports, the incident happened on Saturday, 29th September, 2018.
The Ecology lecturer was said to have accompanied his colleague to assist in a practical course before the incident.
According to a student who witnessed the incident, the lecturer came furiously to the class and gave an order for the students that were not seated to wait outside during the practical.
As the erring students lingered close to the door, the lecturer pushed the door in anger and it hit a pregnant student named Mrs. Dele Miracle.
At this point, students of the department were reported to have come to the defence of their pregnant colleague. It was gathered that after some time, the lecturer went and parked his car somewhere outside the department then came back to discipline the students for revolting.
Entering angrily into the class, the lecturer was alleged to have forcefully hit another female student with the door, inflicting an injury on her face that left her bleeding. This called for the reaction of the students who physically attacked the lecturer.
According to reports, the Ecology Lecturer later fled, after receiving some blows from the angry students
The statement however didn’t provide the name or identity of the student and the lecturer involve.
