By Ekpenyong Emmanuel

As Nigerians usher in the New Year, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on citizens to remain vigilant and united in their pursuit of a better future. In his New Year message, Atiku emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable and working together to address the country’s challenges.

According to Atiku, the year 2025 presents a momentous opportunity for Nigerians to reshape the national dialogue and foster a collective commitment to accountability. He urged citizens to actively monitor the actions and decisions of government officials at all levels, ensuring that power is not abused for personal gain.

“The vigilance of the citizenry is paramount in ensuring that those in leadership never abuse the power entrusted to them,” Atiku said. “Together, we must firmly restrain any attempts by an overreaching government to encroach on our rights or erode our democracy.”

Atiku also acknowledged the difficulties of the past year, describing 2024 as a “sobering” experience that served as a wake-up call to the need for greater governmental accountability. However, he expressed optimism that the challenges had strengthened the resilience and faith of Nigerians.

As the country looks to the future, Atiku urged Nigerians to resist any attempts to divide the nation along religious or ethnic lines. Instead, he emphasized the importance of unity in addressing national challenges and promoting collective prosperity.

“We must hold firm to the principles that unite us,” Atiku said. “Let us resist efforts to sow division and instead nurture our shared hopes for collective prosperity.”

The former Vice President also expressed hope that 2025 would bring economic recovery and relief from years of hardship. He prayed for a revitalized economy that would ease the burdens on households and foster a sense of freedom and opportunity.

Atiku concluded his message by calling on Nigerians to remember those who had succumbed to the country’s enduring struggles. He urged citizens to renew their determination to address poverty, inequality, and other challenges, and to work together to build a stronger and more unified nation.

“With hope in my heart and faith in our collective strength, I wish you all a prosperous New Year filled with boundless blessings and success in all our endeavors,” Atiku said. “Together, let us build a safer, stronger, and more unified nation.”Nigeria’s Path to Progress: Atiku Calls for Vigilance and Unity
