The Edo State governorship election tribunal has become a battleground for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, as they seek to reclaim their mandate.
Amid rising tensions and incidents of violence, Ighodalo has reaffirmed his confidence in the nation’s judiciary, expressing optimism that the tribunal will deliver justice.
Speaking outside the courthouse in Benin, Ighodalo stated,
“We are looking forward to the outcome of the tribunal, and we strongly believe that the judiciary will do the right thing.
“He emphasized that the PDP’s focus remains on reclaiming their mandate and working for the good people of Edo State.
“Our focus remains on reclaiming our mandate and working positively for the good people of the state.
We will take poverty out of our land, eliminate fear and intimidation, and unlock the great potential of Edo.”
Ighodalo condemned the recent attack by a masked gunman outside the courthouse, describing it as a deliberate distraction.
“These acts of violence and harassment are deliberate distractions meant to make us take our eyes off the ball,” he said.
Despite these challenges, Ighodalo commended the party faithful for their steadfastness over the last three months.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their support, saying, “I want to thank the good people of Edo, who came out in massive numbers to vote for us last Sept. 21, and for keeping faith through the difficulties.”
Ighodalo urged his supporters to remain strong and prayerful, concluding,
“Be strong and prayerful. By the grace of God, we will reclaim our mandate and deliver the change that Edo deserves”.
