The Nigerian Army has released the Delta traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom, Clement Ikolo, who was earlier declared wanted for the murder of 17 soldiers in Delta State on March 14.

The traditional ruler was declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters along with the other seven for alleged connections.

However, he was released to the Senator representing Delta Central, Ede Dafinone.

The spokesman for the Army, Major General Clement Nwachukwu, said Ikolo was released because nothing linked him to the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama, although the act took place in his kingdom.

Nwachukwu stated that Senator Dafinone is standing as the monarch’s surety.

The traditional ruler of Ewu had surrendered to the police after he and several others were declared wanted by the military in connection with the killing of 17 army personnel in Okuama on March 14th.

The police handed him over to the military, and for nearly a month he has been in the custody of the army.

A few weeks ago, 17 Army personnel were murdered in Okuama while on a peacekeeping mission.
