In a strong statement, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking during a Christmas celebration with troops in Sokoto, General Musa declared that Nigeria will not allow any foreign military base on its soil.

The CDS emphasized that the Nigerian Armed Forces are capable and equipped to defend the country against any external or internal threats, and will not cede control to foreign powers. He warned that anyone found to be supporting or harboring criminal elements will be treated as an accomplice and will face the full force of the law.

General Musa’s statement comes amidst reports of foreign powers seeking to establish military bases in West Africa. Nigeria, as a regional powerhouse, has been clear in its opposition to such moves, and has instead called for regional cooperation and collaboration to address common security challenges.

The CDS also used the opportunity to commend the troops for their bravery and sacrifices in the fight against insecurity. He urged them to remain vigilant and focused, and to continue working together to protect Nigeria’s interests.

The event was attended by senior military officers, government officials, and traditional leaders, including representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto. The CDS’s statement was seen as a clear reaffirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a warning to foreign powers not to interfere in its internal affairs.
