Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army (NA) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has applauded the Kwara State Government for their support to the family of one of the officers late Major Segun Oni, who died during active service.
One lost his life during a counter-insurgency operation in Niger State on August 13, 2023.
In a statement by the Army, Public Relations Officer, Onyema Uwachukwu, the CoAS while playing host to the the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and other officials of the state government at the Army Headquarters on Tuesday, appreciated the governor’s gestures.
He said, “The Nigerian army expressed their heart of gratitude to the Governor of Kwara State for his tremendous effort in supporting the family of the bereaved. Also, he equally appreciated the good people of the state for their support to the Nigeria Army in the execution of its constitutional responsibility
“Traditionally, the Nigeria Army by Standing Operating Procedures often relates with the Next of Kin of departed personnel in the event of death, disability or injury resulting from operational engagement”
“The level of peace and stability currently witnessed in Kwara State is remarkable and attributable to the seamless support and collaboration between the good people of Kwara State and the troops.
He added, that the Army will continue to work in synergy with other security agencies to expand the frontiers of peace and stability in the state.
In his remarks, the Governor appreciated the Nigerian Army for all their efforts towards combating insecurity and ensuring peace and harmony in Nigeria.
He urged the Nigerians to always pray and support the families of the fallen heroes while proposing the immortalisation of the deceased officer.
A Cheque was however presented to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Olubunmi Mariam Oni as support to the family by the governor.
