Armed robbers kill Ibadan DSTV Manager, cart away belongings

A group of armed robbery gang on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, killed Leke Emmanuel,
the Manager of one of the DSTV shops, opposite Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.

NATIONAL TELESCOPE gathered that the three robbers who stormed the DSTV office on a motorcycle around 2:30pm, entered the shop and went straight into the manager’s office where he was killed.
The robbers also carted away some of his belongings which included laptop, phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

When NATIONAL TELESCOPE visited the deceased’s residence on Thursday, family and friends were noticed paying their condolences to his wife.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our reporter, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Ruth Emmanuel said they left home with their kids that fateful day and parted ways after droping their children at school.

The widow explained further that she was however called by her father-in-law who asked to confirm what had happened at the shop. On getting there, she found her husband in his own pool of blood.


She said, “in the morning, we went out together in his car because I said I don’t want to go out with my car yesterday, so I told him to wait for me. Along the road, I stopped and went my way.

“It was grandpa that called me and said he heard somebody was shot. I said I don’t know anything about it and immediately I ran to the office and when I got there, he had passed on.”

When asked about the incident that may have led to his death, she said: “Actually I wasn’t there at the time it happened but somebody that was there, told me that when they entered, they went straight into my husband’s office and they asked him, ‘where is the money’ and he asked them back which money and the killer opened his t-shirt, brought out the gun and shot him.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. Emmanuel disclosed that three armed robbers early this year stormed her husband’s office demanding to see the manager from the staff.

According to her, the robbers eventually carted away phones, laptops and money belonging to the manager and customers.

“They have been there early this year, it was three people that came, those that were there said, when they got inside, they asked to see the manager. But he was not around then and they took everything including his phones and laptop including that of those that came for subscription.”

When our reporter visited the management of DSTV, Oyo State head office, the manager was not on seat. However, efforts to get the reaction of other management staff at the office proved abortive as they claimed they have no official permission to comment on the incident.

When contacted, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso told NATIONAL TELESCOPE that the case is still under investigation.

He said, “the incident in question is under investigation. Updates would be provided soonest, please.”

Mr. Leke is survived by wife and three children. His first Child Moyo is 11 years old, the second – Greatness 9 years and Esther 2 years.
