Arewa Youth insist on Protest Over Govt Policies

By Funmi Ojo

The Arewa Youth Ambassadors, a prominent northern group, has reaffirmed its commitment to proceed with a planned protest on August 1, 2024.

The protest aims to express their dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s policies, which they describe as anti-people.

The group dismissed rumours that the protest had been called off, labeling such information as false and misleading, and urging Nigerians to disregard it.

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Yahaya M. Abdullahi, on Saturday in Abuja, the group clarified its stance, stating that the protest is a necessary response to the worsening insecurity, food and fuel crises, unemployment, and high cost of living affecting the region and the country.

The group reiterated that the protest would proceed unless the government reversed its detrimental policies.

“Arewa Youth Ambassadors state beyond any doubt that the protest will happen on the slated date unless the government reverses its policies that have given rise to gruesome hunger and multidimensional poverty in the land,” the statement read.

The group emphasised that the government’s current policies have exacerbated the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in the northern region.

The group believes that the protest is a crucial step in holding the government accountable and pushing for the necessary changes to improve the lives of the citizens.

The group has called on all Nigerians, especially the youth, to join the protest and stand in solidarity against the policies that have led to widespread suffering.

They stressed the importance of a united front in demanding better governance and policies that prioritise the well-being of the people.

The Arewa Youth Ambassadors urge the government to listen to the voices of the people and take immediate action to address the grievances that have led to this call for protest.

They warn that failure to do so will only deepen the discontent and hardship experienced by the citizens, potentially leading to more significant unrest in the future.
