As part of his third coronation anniversary celebrations, the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has conferred the prestigious Royal Order of Iwere (ROI) on ten prominent Delta sons and daughters for their patriotic contributions to the Warri Kingdom, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.
Among those honoured were Mr Sam Oruru Amuka-Pemu, OON, a renowned journalist and publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, and Mr Pinnick Melvin Amaju, Nigeria’s representative on the FIFA Council. The monarch also recognized Engr. Felix Omatsola FNSE, Mr Ade Mabo, Mr Julius Dediare Rone, OFR, Mr Alfred Temile, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajorutsedere Awosika, OON, MFR, MNI, Master Eworitsewarami Justin Wilbert, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Mr. Misan Harriman.
His Majesty personally decorated the recipients, lauding their dedication to the advancement of the Warri Kingdom and the nation.
In his acceptance speech, Uncle Sam Amuka-Pemu attributed his success to divine guidance, expressing gratitude to the Olu for the honour. Mr Pinnick Amaju, visibly elated, also thanked the monarch, describing the recognition as a “very big honour.”
Mr Ade Mabo, another awardee, urged the Itsekiri people to continue contributing to the development of the Warri Kingdom. Meanwhile, Mr Julius Dediare Rone, OFR, expressed his profound appreciation, stating, “I have been honoured all over the world, but this is the best award I have ever received.” He pledged his unwavering allegiance to the Olu and prayed for a prosperous reign.
