Some angry mob on wednesday, march 9, 2022 attacked some staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over disconnection.

National Telescope gathered that one of the IBEDC Staff identified as Alfa Sodiq sustained an injury on his face as a result of the attack.

According to one of the staff who pleaded anonymity, stated that they had approached to disconnect the customers who were owing over N71,000, but in the process, some unidentified boys in the area attacked them.

“When we came, we told them that they will be disconnected because of the huge debt on their bill which carries more than N71,000. There are four of them using that one bill, so we called one of them but she told us she is the only one that has been paying for the bill that we should go ahead and disconnect.

“That was when we mounted the ladder, and Alfa climbed up while I was discussing with one of the customers who said we should please give them back their wire after disconnection. Suddenly we saw some boys shouting and telling Alfa not to disconnect, when he has already cut one line and wanted to cut the other. That was when they threw stone at him and when he came down, one of the boys who was holding a stick that has nail on it just hit Alfa on his face.” he said.

However, an eyewitness who doubles as one of the IBEDC customer whose light was disconnected and also pleaded anonymity said, “I don’t know the person that hit the IBEDC Staff but we told them when they came not to disconnect us that we are not owing.” He said.

Meanwhile, IBEDC, Ibadan office has said the issue will be investigated.

Speaking in a phone chat with National Telescope, the IBEDC, Oyo State Spokesperson, Mrs. Busola Tunwase enjoined aggrieved customers to present their complains through the appropriate quarters rather than attacking staffs going about their legitimate duties.

“If you have complains, you can write, you can appeal, so there is no point attacking anybody. Whoever is aggrevied as a customer we have channels where these complains can be made and this is what the customers should have done. We are concern about our customers, we will investigate the matter and will be resolved amicably.” She added.
