Anambra Tragedy: Mother, Four Children Die from Suspected Food Poisoning

A tragic incident has struck the Abubor Nnewichi community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a mother and her four children died from suspected food poisoning.

The victims, identified as Onyinye and her children Miracle, Dominion, Amanda, and Kosi, reportedly passed away after consuming their dinner on Monday.

Eyewitnesses and family sources revealed that the family had just finished eating when the incident occurred.

The remnants of the meal suggested it may have been a cassava-based dish, but the exact cause of the poisoning remains unknown, prompting further investigation.

The father of the family, who was not present during the meal, suffered shock upon discovering his family members lifeless upon his return.

He was subsequently hospitalised. This unexpected tragedy has plunged the community into deep mourning.

Two other siblings, a boy and a girl, were not present at the time as they were residing elsewhere.

Their absence during this unfortunate event has been a small consolation amidst the overwhelming loss.

The police have confirmed the incident and are actively investigating to determine the cause of the deaths. Also, bodies of the victims have been taken to the morgue for autopsy.

Anambra State Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the case as one of “sudden and unnatural death,” as reported to the command.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover source of the suspected food poisoning.
