According to a statement by the Institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar/Public Relations Officer, Adejoke O. Akinpelu and made available to NATIONAL TELESCOPE, the appeal became necessary over an accident that befell a pupil of the Staff School on Monday, 21 March, 2022.

The child knocked down by a reversing vehicle was rushed to the University Health Services Jaja Clinic but was not attended to because the clinic was under the lock and key of the JAC. Through the intervention of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebowale, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of UCH today assigned a consultant to the child and she is now receiving attention at the UCH. Her condition is stable and she is responding to treatment.

The Vice Chancellor noted the severe pains the little girl must have gone through which may have been ameliorated if she had been able to receive immediate medical first aid at the Jaja Clinic.

The Vice-Chancellor therefore, appeals to the leadership of the JAC to always exempt the UHS from total close down in order for it to provide palliative care in emergencies considering that a very large proportion of the workforce reside on campus.

The Vice Chancellor also appeals to all car users to be extra careful and exercise caution, especially, within the premises of the Staff School as they drive their vehicles as any of the children may be crossing the road or they may be behind the cars unknown to the drivers.
