Akwa Ibom State Schedules LG Elections for Oct 26

On Tuesday, June 4th, the Akwa Ibom State Government announced that the local government elections will take place on October 26, 2024, across the 31 local government areas of the state.

This announcement was made by Governor Umo Eno in Uyo during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting organised by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).

The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong.

Governor Eno emphasised the importance of conducting the elections within this year to avoid extending the caretaker committees currently managing the local governments.

He assured that the elected council chairpersons will be inaugurated on December 7, 2024, aligning with the state’s electoral timetable.

The election timetable includes the period for political parties to conduct their primaries between July 22 and August 26, 2024, with campaigns starting on August 26.

AKISIEC Chairman Aniedi Ikoiwak assured political parties of adequate security and the commitment to free and fair elections.
