Adeboye Apologises for Controversial Tithe Statement (SEE VIDEO)

Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has issued an apology for his statement suggesting that failing to pay tithes could hinder one’s chances of entering heaven.

The statement which attracted wide criticism on social media was retracted in a video that has since gone viral and trending on twitter as at the time of filing this report.

Adeboye clarified, “I am sorry for saying that; it is not in the Bible. What the Bible teaches is that we should pursue peace with all men and holiness, without which no one can see God.”

During a sermon, Adeboye emphasised the importance of understanding scripture accurately, stating, “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time.”

He drew a parallel with scientific understanding, explaining that while it was once believed that light travels in straight lines, we later discovered it moves in waves.”

He however, stressed that tithe should not be limited to 10 per cent but should be based on the financial status of the believer.

“Limiting tithing to just 10 percent can be misleading,” he continued.

“Some of you should be giving 20 percent, 30 percent, or even 40 percent. The 10 percent should be for beginners. Giving should come from the heart and be generous.”
