The Adamawa State Government has commenced the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage to its workers.
On Friday, August 23, employees received their salaries as usual, fulfilling Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s promise that the increased wage would take effect this month.
Civil servant Amos Tumba confirmed, “I received the salary increase, and it has been implemented.”
Another worker, Amma Yohanna, also affirmed, “Yes, we have been paid according to the new package.”
Earlier in the week, on August 19, Governor Fintiri assured labour leaders of the new wage structure.
This assurance was later confirmed by Emmanuel Fashe, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), after a meeting at the Government House in Yola.
Fashe noted that while state government workers received the new wage this month, local government employees will see the increase starting September 2024.
