The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday ruled to disqualify Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party’s candidate for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election set for November 16, 2024.
In a unanimous decision, a three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Barka and delivered by Justice Adebukola Banjoko allowed the Labour Party’s appeal against Ebiseni, overturning an earlier ruling that supported his candidacy.
The panel’s decision reverses the initial ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Ebiseni and his running mate, Ezekiel Awude, as the Labour Party’s candidates.
Justice Nwite previously declared that the second primary, which selected Ebiseni and Awude, was valid and directed INEC to publish their names accordingly.
This latest judgement, however, nullifies Justice Nwite’s directive, leaving the Labour Party without its original candidate choice for the Ondo State governorship election.
