The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has drawn attention to the ongoing issues of poverty, illiteracy, and insecurity in Northern Nigeria, acknowledging that the region is still a work in progress.
The forum distanced itself from a planned nationwide protest against bad governance, labeling it ill-timed and counterproductive.
During a visit to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, ACF Chairman Mamman Osuman emphasised that the forum does not endorse the protest.
Osuman highlighted the persistent problems of insecurity and poverty in Northern Nigeria, which led to the formation of the ACF in 2000 by Northern leaders, including state governors and traditional rulers, to address these issues and promote unity.
Despite efforts to enhance the situation, Osuman recognised that the North continues to face significant challenges.
He called on both leaders and citizens to strive towards changing this narrative.
The ACF is dedicated to protecting the interests of Northern people and has recently reviewed the 1999 Constitution, submitting its findings to the National Assembly.
The forum plans to commemorate two upcoming events: the 90th birthday of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon in October 2024 and the ACF’s 25th anniversary in March 2025.
Osuman invited Governor Sani to serve as the chief host for both events.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for his support and assistance to the people of Kaduna State and the ACF, hoping for continued collaboration in the future.
