The Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja has extended an apology to Veronica Anyim, a female worshiper, following a public incident on Sunday where she was accused of giving a false testimony in the church.
A widely circulated video captured the Senior Pastor, Paul Enenche, questioning the authenticity of Anyim’s testimony during a service in Abuja.
Anyim, who claimed to have earned a “BSc in Law” from the National Open University of Nigeria, was interrupted by Pastor Enenche, who challenged the truthfulness of her statement.
He expressed doubts about her claim, citing discrepancies in her speech and educational background. This led to calls from some Nigerians for the pastor to apologize to Anyim after it became evident that her testimony was genuine.
In a statement issued on Monday by Sylvester Edoh, the Personal Assistant to the Senior Pastor, the church clarified that the intention was not to embarrass Anyim.
The statement emphasized the church’s commitment to excellence and integrity while expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to Anyim.
Edoh explained that concerns arose during Anyim’s testimony regarding her language proficiency and the clarity of her academic credentials, prompting Pastor Enenche’s intervention.
The statement reiterated the church’s dedication to Anyim’s well-being and spiritual growth, emphasizing that the actions taken were in line with maintaining standards within the church community.
It clarified that the pastor’s decision to intervene was motivated by a desire to uphold standards of excellence and integrity, rather than to publicly shame Anyim.
The church reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Anyim and ensuring that such incidents are handled with sensitivity and care in the future.
