Students of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, have lauded the outstanding achievement of their former Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba
Garba received a sword of honour from the 2018/2019 Student Representative Council (SRC).
Presenting the award on behalf of the Students, the representative of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shamsudeen Yusuf, the Bulama of Zazzau, at a dinner organised in the honour of the outgoing VC at Mamman Kontagora square on Saturday described the award as well deserved one.
In his opening remark, the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ahmadu Ahmed eulogied the former VC on his outstanding achievement which attracted the students attention
While listing some of the achievements of the VC, Ahmed, described the feat as a product of hardwork.
In the same vein, the Dean Student Affairs, Professor Y.Y Bambale in his remark praised the former VC.
He however appreciated the SRC members for their effort in recognising efforts put into the institution and consideration in honouring the Vice Chancellor.
On his part, the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC), Comrade Usman Suleiman Waziri, described the award as well deserved honour.
” I want to bring to your attention that we wouldn’t have come this far and achieved this much without the support of our father, an inspirational icon and role model, the Vice Chancellor of this university and also the Jagaban of the students union and students in the whole university, Professor Y.Y. Bambale.
Waziri also appreciated his council members for their unreserved commitment in serving the students.
“I wouldn’t have come this far without their support and I believe if I am given the opportunity to choose, I will choose them again and again.”
In his goodwill message, The Emir of Zazzau who was represented by his grandson, Shamsudeen Yusuf said
“His Royal Highness said I should tell the professor that he sees him as a son. His doors have always being open to him and his doors will continue to be open”
Similarly, The Bulama of Zazzau lauded the Vice Chancellor for his good governance and transparency which he has exhibited throughout his tenure.
His words “In Professor Garba, we have found transparency and accountability. We will say in the words of Aristotle that he has come, he has seen and he has conquered”.
While delivering his acceptance speech, the Ex-Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba appreciated the students for the honour.
“It is indeed an honour to me to be honoured by you. I have received so many awards and honours in my life but any award that comes from students; I take it to be the best because it is coming from the bottom of your hearts.
“In appreciation of what we normally do for you, that we ought to do for you.
“Of course, there is no enough of everything, no enough of resources, no enough of time to be able to attend to the aspirations of students and the university community at large. So, whatever you see we have done, we have done it within the limit of the resources and time that we had” He added
Professor Ibrahim Garba is the 13th Vice Chancellor of ABU before handing over to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Ahmadu Ahmed as Acting Vice Chancellor.
The occasion however was graced by dignitaries within and outside the university community. Among these are: Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Ahmadu Ahmed, The grandson of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shamsudeen Yusuf, Dean Student Affairs Professor Y.Y. Bambale, the SRC members and some students of the institution.
The event also featured presentation of Iconic Awards to outstanding Students and dignitaries including the SRC President.
