ABU admits 13,000 Out of 40,000 Admission Seekers

ABU Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, delivering his speech at the matriculation

Out of over 40,000 admission seekers who applied to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (ABU), 13,000 were successfully admitted.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ibrahim Garba made the disclosure while delivering his speech at the matriculation ceremony held today (Friday, 28th of Feb.) at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.

The Vice Chancellor enjoined the students to place high priority on their admission and stay away from any behavior that can affect their academic pursuit in the institution.

“I congratulate you for being among those who are admitted into the university.

“You should also know that in 2019/2020 admission process, over 40,000 students applied for this institution, out of these, only 13,000 candidates were admitted.”  

“I enjoined you to stay away from bad behaviors such as exam malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing and all forms of improper behaviors.

He however assured the students that the institution is open and tolerant to all religions. Adding that, all students are allowed to practice their religion without any form of discrimination.  

“In conclusion, on behalf of your Deans and the entire school management, I once again congratulate you for your entry into the university. I hope that in the coming years we would also gather here to celebrate your graduation. I wish you a hitch free study in Ahmadu Bello University”. He added

 Earlier in his opening prayer, the chief Imam of the institution, Mallam Saidu Yunus who was represented by the Chief librarian of the institution, Professor Umar Ibrahim, urged the students to be God fearing in their dealings in Campus. He said they should ensure the love of God is in their heart.

He however prayed for success and good health of all the students.

Similarly, Prof. Reverend Father Peter Tanko while in his closing prayer, prayed for God’s Guidance and protection for all the students throughout their stay in the university. 

The event which was moderated by the registrar of the institution, Mallam Abdullahi Ahmad, was attended by Deans, students and other dignitaries from the institution while the students took their matriculation oat.
