The Abia State government has begun data capturing of People Living with Disabilities in the state, ahead of its plans to unveil a welfare package for them.
The wife of the state governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, while speaking at the capturing exercise in Umuahia, reiterated the state government’s commitment to prioritise the welfare of PLWDs in the state.
According to her, the aim of the data collection is to have accurate information on people living with disabilities in the state and at the same time embark on better plans for them.
She said, “The capturing is also a way to interact with persons of disabilities in other to know their plight and how the government can solve their problems.
“This is the beginning of good things to come to PLWDs in Abia State because we will use the data captured to include them in the scheme of things at the federal level.”
She however also distributed bags of rice, groundnut oil and other food items to over 2,000 PLWDs in the state.
Also speaking at the event, Special Assistant to the Governor on PLWDs, Mr David Anyaele, commended the wife of the governor for the initiative.
He said Mrs Otti has shown her resolve to include persons living with disabilities in the governance of the state so that they can contribute their quota as there is ability in disability.”
