Umuahia, Abia State – The ANorthhapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a communiqué calling on the party’s leadership to ensure that the forthcoming Local Government Area (LGA) and State Congresses are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

The stakeholders, who met recently in Umuahia, commended the Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee for fixing the date for the congresses and praised the Rt. Hon. Allwell Asiforo Okere-led Caretaker Committee for their leadership.

In the communiqué signed by 52 prominent stakeholders, the group demanded that no candidate who purchased the Chairmanship form should be edged out of the contest, emphasizing that all aspirants are eminently qualified. They also insisted that the exercise should comply with party rules, allowing all candidates to contest and determine a winner.

The stakeholders further called for elections where no candidate is disenfranchised and delegates can vote for their chosen candidates. They urged members to conduct themselves peacefully and elect responsible, decent, and God-fearing individuals.

“We commend the party for zoning the Chairmanship to Abia North,” the communiqué read.

“We are confident that the aspirants from Abia North are highly qualified and capable of leading the party.”

Notable signatories to the communiqué include Barr. Okey Igwe, Chief C.C Olimah, Hon. Chigozie Igbo, and Chief John Okiyi Kalu.

The development comes as the party prepares for its LGA and State Congresses, amid concerns over internal conflicts and electoral irregularities.
