Abia Assembly Speaker Dumps PDP, Joins APC

The former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Njoku, who represented Osisioma Ngwa North State Constituency in the 7th Assembly, resigned as Speaker after the PDP reached an agreement allowing Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, son of former Governor Theodore Orji, to assume the position.

Speaking to supporters at his country home in Mbutu Nta village, Osisioma Local Government Area, Njoku said his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state. “I appreciate the PDP for the opportunities they gave me and wish them success in their future endeavours,” he stated.

The former Speaker called on his supporters to join him in the APC, emphasizing hard work and commitment. “Only those who work hard will reap the rewards,” he added, quoting the Igbo proverb, “Onye ruo, ya erie” (He who works, eats).

Njoku assured the people of Osisioma Ngwa North and Abia State that his defection was motivated by a desire to create a brighter future for the constituency and the state.

Key stakeholders at the event expressed their support for Njoku’s move. Comr. Odimegwu Aruru, Chief of Staff to the Bishop Campaign Organization, described the defection as a step toward progress for the people. Comr. Emmanuel Nduagu, former president of the Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress, and Hon. Austin Uruakpa, former leader of the Osisioma Ngwa Legislative Council, echoed similar sentiments, urging supporters to obtain APC membership cards from their wards.

In a vote of thanks, Comr. Oliver Christian, a youth leader from Isiala Osokwa Ward 6, praised Njoku’s decision and pledged full support. “This is a bold step that signifies hope for the masses,” he said, adding prayers for blessings upon Njoku and his supporters.

Njoku’s defection marks a significant political shift in Abia State, signaling the growing influence of the APC in the region.
