Abbey Trotsky vs Police: Case Adjourned to April 28

Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, the Acting National Chairperson of Socialist Party of Nigeria, SPN and Oyo State Coordinator of Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights, CDWR who is popularly known as Abbey Trotsky reappeared at magistrate court 6, Iyaganku, Ibadan again today, 24th February, 2022. This in connection with a matter that borders on the struggle against casualization and indecent labour practices at Sumal Food Limited.

Most members of CDWR, representatives of civil society, trade union and media organisations including individuals workers from factories who came to court in solidarity with Abbey Trotsky and the CDWR’s struggle against casualization and slavery working condition in workplaces across the state got to court as early as 8:30am. This is with the expectation to witness the court proceeding.

This was disclosed in a statement by Comrade Abiodun Yusuf on behalf the CDWR, Oyo state chapter and made available to National Telescope.

According to the statement, “Unfortunately this hope was dashed as the court did not sit. It is in the light of this development that the police prosecutor, inspector Sunday and Abbey Trotsky, who has been appearing in person since the disqualification of his counsel, Mr Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, because he is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, agreed on the 28th April, 2022 as the next adjourned date.

“Appreciation to all members of the CDWR, Civil society organisations, Media organisations, sections of Committee for a Workers international, CWI including Citipoint and Ola Adeosun Victoria chamber who had been so supportive since the prosecution of Abbey Trotsky started in 2019. We shall continue to rely on your solidarity and support as we remain undaunted in our campaign against casualization and indecent labour practices across workplaces in the state and the country at large.”
