Abandoned day old baby relocated to welfare home in Ilorin

A day old baby who was abandoned by unidentified person last Thursday at
Owoseni Adeshina Street off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, has been handed over to officials of the Children Reception Centre in the Kwara State capital.

Speaking with National Telescope on Monday, 22nd of November, 2021, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi said after the case of the abandoned baby was reported to the Police, the State Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo immediately directed that the child should be taken to the welfare home for proper care.

He said, “Yes, l can confirm the case of an abandoned baby at Asa Dam Area, Ilorin. However, when the case was reported to the police, the CP immediately directed that the child should be taken to welfare home for proper care.”

According to an eye witness, Mr Suleiman Kayode,
the baby was dropped at the workshop of a motorcycle repairer known as Wasiu Dauda.

Kayode who washes cars at the same area said the baby girl must have been dropped in the early hours before people set out for work, last Thursday.

He said, “the baby was dropped on the grass and she was facing the ground. Passers-by however took note of her around 7:45am while she was still sleeping.”

Speaking further, he said the baby was quickly taken by him and some residents of the area to Adewole Police Station, Ilorin adding that one Alhaja Medinat, -an officer – collected the baby from them at the station.

“We did not leave the police station until after writing statement on the incident,” Kayode, added.
