Olubadan Stool: Makinde revokes Ex-Gov. Ajumobi’s Declaration, confirms Lekan Balogun as new Olubadan

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has revoked the declaration of the former Governor of the State, Abiola Ajumobi on the appointment of the Olubadan as well as other related issues.

Makinde also announced Senator Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

This was contained in a statement posted on the Oyo State Government social media handle on Monday.

The statement read, “Following time-tested traditions of the Olubadan of lbadan Chieftaincy
Declaration, Governor Seyi Makinde has announced the appointment of Senator Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. His Excellency wished Olubadan a long and peaceful reign.

Consequently, in view of the judgements of the Oyo State High Court on February 1 and 10, 2022, and Sections 7, 20, 26 and 30 of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State 2000, His Excellency declared the following enactments by the previous administration revoked:

  1. The Amended Declaration Regulating the Selection to the Olubadan Chieftaincy Stool (August 2017):
  2. The Implementation of the White Paper on the Review of the Existing Olubadan of lbadan Chieftaincy Declaration and other Chieftaincies in lbadan (August 2017);
  3. The Approval of Appointment of Beaded Crowns for the Olubadan in Council (March 2018):
  4. The Appointment of Beaded Crowns and Coronet Wearing (March 2018).
