UI, NSCDC mourns Olubadan Adetunji

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale has commiserated with the immediate family, good and progressive people of Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria on the death of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji on Sunday, 2nd January, 2021.

The VC in a statement by the institution’s Director of Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo who expressed shock over the demise of the Monarch described him as a pillar of support to the University, stressing that he never missed an opportunity to offer wise counsel and words of support for the progress of the institution.

According to him the 1st class Monarch is “A bridge-builder, father figure, true leader lover of all, and a man of peace whose reign remains known for all-round peace in Ibadanland, Kabiyesi will be sorely missed by all of us in the University.”

“My last engagement with Oba Adetunji was on 16 November, 2021, when he received our Chancellor and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, on a courtesy call, in his Popoyemoja Palace. Kabiyesi demonstrated that he was UI’s father and Chief Landlord. UI was, indeed, honoured and celebrated on that memorable visit.”

“I must say, Kabiyesi Adetunji lived humbly; served humbly; came loving; lived loving; and served loving.”

“Oba Adetunji knew how to serve God; how to serve humanity; how to lead humanity: how to serve others; how to lead others; how to assist others; how to develop others and how to mentor others. He had the true formula of how to lead the community and society. He was a leader of leaders.”

For Prof. Adebowale, “Our consolation lies in the great deeds of the late Olubadan which are engraved unforgettably in the hearts of women and men. Such deeds, which knew no ethnic or religious boundaries, bear clear testimony to the late Olubadan’s triumph over death.”

“On behalf of the governing council, management, staff, and students of the University of Ibadan, we sincerely commiserate with the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the immediate family of the late Olubadan, Olubadan-in-Council, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and all Ibadan indigenes and residents.”

He however prayed Allah forgive him his misdeeds, expand and illuminate his grave. Aamin” he added.

In the same vein, the Oyo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), CC Adaralewa Michael Akintayo commiserated with the entire immediate family of thevOlubadan, the Olubadan-in-Council and all Ibadan indigenes over the demise of the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan land.

In a statement signed by CDPRO, CSC Olusegun Oluwole, the Date Commandant stressed the the late monarch would particularly be missed for support given to security agencies in fighting crime and criminality especially Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

He noted that “he promoted unity of Nigeria, the values, ethos and culture of not just Ibadanland but the entire Yorubaland.

“Commandant Adaralewa wishes to assure the general public that adequate security measures have been put in place in Ibadan Metropolis and Palace area in collaboration with other sister security agencies.

“He urge the good people of Ibadanland to be law abiding and guide against any acts that can lead to break down of law and order.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the Olubadan and for Allah to grant him the best abode in Al-Jannah Firdaous.”
